My 9-year-old has a packed schedule on a daily basis. He is constantly on the go, attending school, practicing tennis, and engaging in various other activities. With such a packed timetable, it’s essential to provide him with the nutrients he needs to stay energized and focused throughout the day.
Just like my son, his society friends & classmates both girls and boys too are enrolled into some or the other kind of sports like football, cricket, skating etc. I can say with certainty that today’s children are busier than we were in our childhood days. They are constantly juggling multiple activities.
Amidst all of this, as a parent, my focus is to make sure that my child is getting the right nutrition. The right diet supplies the energy and essential nutrients needed in the body to handle all these activities.

Protein – A Key Nutrient
Protein is one of the key nutrients that play a crucial role in growing children by supporting intellectual function and focus. Primarily, protein contributes as the building block for a child’s muscles, skin, hormones, and tissues.
Beverages with protein
Over a period of a few years, I’ve practiced making a number of beverages with protein that not only provide my child with the necessary nutrients but also taste awesome. There were some hits and many misses. Here are some of my son-approved beverages that have helped improve his overall growth and development:
#1 Milk Glass with Complan:
This has to be my son’s top pick in nutrition drinks. He likes both of its flavour variants, chocolate and vanilla. The best thing about Complan is that it has 34 vital nutrients including 100% milk protein, vitamins and minerals. It contains 63% more protein, as compared to other nutrition drinks. My son usually drinks Complan with milk before retiring to bed at night. He also drinks this when he is running late for school or any other class.
#2 Chocolate Oats Banana Smoothie:
I first saw this recipe in a viral Instagram reel and thought of trying it. It is a great way of making any kid finish a banana so quickly. For making this smoothie, I blend oats, bananas, a few almonds, unsweetened chocolate powder and milk. Oats and milk combine to make this smoothie protein-rich. My son loves it because the chocolaty taste of this smoothie overshadows the banana’s taste. However, if the smoothie isn’t chocolatey enough then it is left unfinished.
Sticking to the roots with a Glass of Lassi:
In the olden days and today in India, many people prefer to have a glass full of homemade lassi, first thing in the morning. Curd is also a rich source of protein. To make the lassi tastier, I add 1 tablespoon of rose water and a spoonful of sugar. Sometimes, I also add a powder mix of dry fruits, seeds, saffron strands and cardamom to this mix. This kind of lassi is creamy and gives a thandai-like yummy taste. My son finds it a refreshing drink that he feels recharges him while on the go.
I like to switch between these beverages so that my kid doesn’t get bored by drinking the same drink daily and so can you. These beverages with protein have made it easier for me to incorporate this nutrient into my son’s balanced diet.
Just as an important reminder, I have added these drinks in proportion to other foodstuff so as to balance the diet. In addition to this, my son also eats at least one fruit a day and regular meals. Hope this article proves to be of help in your parenting journey.
