Kahaani 2 Movie (2016) – a Viewer’s Review

The first Kahaani movie which was released in 2012 had left every viewer amazed. It had set an unprecedented standard for any film  to match up. Since the time the announcement of Kahaani 2 was made the curiosity around the film had been constantly increasing. The trailer of the film further fuelled my eagerness to watch this film.

What Worked for Me:

  • The first half had amazing speed, storyline & mystery.

  • Vidya Balan & Arjun Rampal: Both the actors have acted extremely well and quite convincingly. Vidya Balan has displayed great courage as a heroine to adorn the look where she has a disfigured face. I couldn’t make myself come to terms that Arjun Rampal has acted and if I may say so, has given a tough fight to Vidya Balan.

  • Direction: Sujoy Ghosh has directed some scenes so brilliantly that a chill would surely run down through the spine of the audience each time they would see them. Scenes worth mentioning are Vidya Balan’s accident, the scene where the little girl jumps off the roof and more.

What Didn’t Work for Me:

  • The climax barring a couple of minutes is quite predictable.

  • The powerful background score from the first Kahaani movie was missed badly in this film. The background score used towards the end in the first film could well have been used in the second film again towards the end.

  • There are many loopholes in the narration of this movie which is the biggest let down of the movie.

  • Kolkata & the other Bengali culture has not been used to create the dramatic effect as it was used in the previous movie.

Story:

Vidya Balan lives with her daughter when one day the little girl is kidnapped. Vidya tries to find the girl but meets with an accident. This is when Inspector Inder (Arjun Rampal) enters and starts the investigation. What happens next is for the viewers to go and watch.

Verdict:

I will give this film a 3.5/5 stars.

Definitely, this movie doesn’t match the standard set of the first film. But it surely doesn’t mean that the film is bad. It is just that the level set by Kahaani 1 is way too high for any suspense-thriller movie to reach. Kahaani 2 is a must watch film as it has brilliant performances by the lead pair & an excellent basic plot. Overall it is a good movie that won’t disappoint you if it is not compared to its prequel.
