Datsun redi-GO – New Face in Economy Car Segment of India

List of Contents

Recently Datsun redi-GO has hit the Indian Market. This is the third and the latest offerings under Datsun brand in Indian car segment the earlier ones being Datsun Go and Datsun Go Plus. Earlier I wasn’t interested in automobiles a bit but my husband’s profession in automobile engineering and myself learning to drive one gave way to my inclination towards cars. This also leads me to read more about the newly launched car models and I time & again I have done reviews of some passenger cars as well.
Though I haven’t got a chance of trying my hands on driving this car but browsing about its specification I hope to go for a test drive sometime soon in my city, Gurgaon or should I say Gurugram!
Gurgaon is one heck of an urban city, with traffic jams fast becoming a part of the daily lives of all those living here. This is also a city where people have the love for ‘Big Cars’ especially SUVs. But there aren’t many open roads for them to test the power of SUVs. On Gurgaon roads, the real test of a driver is while driving the car at low-speed, driving on pothole-filled roads and equally crucial is the test of driver’s patience in my city. On all these aspects I would like to see how the new offering from Datsun,  ‘redi-GO’, will fare.
As the name suggests it is having features similar to any contemporary economy car and that too in a stylish hatchback crossover design structure. Few features that I liked in this urban crossover are as follows:
  • Engine & Performance:

Redi-GO has the same 799cc, three-cylinder petrol engine that is also the installed in its french cousin Kwid. So one expect almost the good fuel efficiency and great engine performance within the city limits in ‘redi-Go’ as that of Kwid. Even the two have the same 5-speed manual transmission gearbox.
  • Ground Clearance, Power steering & Small Turning Radius:

All of these to the best of my driving knowledge  and experience will assist in easy low-speed driving especially during peak traffic time and while driving on the pothole-filled road. Redi-GO has a ground clearance of 185mm. which is equally good as its other contemporary passenger cars so one doesn’t need to worry about the car getting touched from the ground or jerky rides. The power steering & small turning radius of just 4.7 mtrs. helps in easier manoeuverability while driving at low-speed and will prove to be of great assistance when you need to get quickly out from a jam like situation.
  • Design:

720X670(1) - YUKAN.jpg.ximg.l_12_m.smartI kind of like the Yukan design given to Datsun Redi- Go. It is compact, sleek yet sporty. There are many careful detailing that has been adapted to this car to make it more urban city friendly like the positioning of headlamps & taillights for better visibility from nearby vehicles, the high stance and robust front bonnet with Datsun’s character grille.

My Analysis of the Car:

Well, I am no genius when it comes to understanding the engineering put behind these four-wheeler machines. But yes comparing the features of this car with some very popular cars from the same segment, I feel that this car is quite suitable for those people who want to take their life’s big leap, I mean the transition from a bike or scooter to a car. There are many other features that will draw the buyer near to this car especially its pricing that is expected to be starting around 2.5 Lakhs INR.
