Tu kitni achhi hai, tu kitni bholi hai
Pyaari pyaari hai, o’ Maa o’ Maa..
O’ Maa, o’ Maa..
This song though from an old Bolywood movie feels so relevant even today. Obviously because it talks about a uniqueness called ‘MOTHER’,  who hasn’t changed a bit over the years. Another reason for this song being relevant is that for any child, the first few cries itself resonate these words, ‘O Maa, O Maaaaa..’
Be it the yester year mothers or the modern age moms there is no difference at all in the feeling that they have for their children. Some universal facts to note about ‘Mothers’ (obviously applies to my mother & now me also):

I haven’t mentioned these facts about mothers to make fun of them, but I want to highlight the depth in which a mother feels for a child. After all, she is the first expert and immortal connection that the child has before he or she is even born.
BTW in this pic my mom is getting me ready while my brother who had to go to school was already ready.. I had to just accompany my mom to drop him.. :P

Talking about myself my mother is my first expert in multiple ways like she is my first teacher, first protector, first friend, first rock solid personality and more. As I remember my childhood days she not only took good care of me but she was my first fashion stylist also. In those days, I used to be dressed head to toe in matching and the most in fashion dresses. I especially remember my brother’s Holy Communion day when my mom had prepared  a dhoti with a top inspired by Madhuri Dixit’s sensational attire in one of her super hit films of those times. I can surely thank her for the awe-inspiring fashion and makeover sense that I have in the present day.
That's me..
That’s me..
But that’s not all, she is till today the only one person who understands my worries and with all her ability try to resolve it as if she possesses a magical wand. A great example of this is from those days of my life when I had just started writing for TOI’s Indore supplement. For some stories, I was required to conduct telephonic interviews etc. but I was too shy for doing it. So my mom became my first P.R. professor & taught me how to conduct interviews and also did some demo of it which increased my confidence and I was able to do the job nicely.
One of the most nostalgic memory of my past days with mom was from the days after my father & mother got separated. During the first few months due to financial instability, she had to buy me an ugly green raincoat which was very good in durability though and yet reasonably priced. When she handed me the raincoat, she didn’t say anything neither did I. But once our finances got sorted out she came up to me with my favorite pastry in hand and confessed the feelings she had that day. She cried her heart out and told me how sad it was to give me a raincoat just opposite to my choice. However, she also mentioned that she was very proud of me to understand the situation and act maturely. Thinking on these lines I feel that she was my first life coach too!
That’s not all my life is filled with such classic memories when mummy has given her expert opinions and bailed me out of the situation. They say when children grow up parents need to become their friends. Mom and me also share this special bond.

Today  also though I am married and have a toddler of my own, she is the first person I share anything that disturbs me. As expected she comes out with such simple solutions to deal with the worry that sometimes I have to ponder, how the heck I didn’t think of this? Like before marriage my mom use to insist me on regularly oiling my hair and use Godrej heena for good healthy hairs. After ‘highlighting hairs’ became a trend she though didn’t stop me from doing it but always insist on using Godrej Creme Hair Colour only, since the brand is very old and quite trustworthy.
With Riaan, my son coming into my life today I am beginning to understand the reasons behind those rules, those do’s & dont’s that my mom had forced me to follow. How my mom, my first expert & now myself can understand all the requirements that a child has even in the infancy stage where the child cannot speak. I guess the transformation from a girl to a mother builds in the expert edge within a woman for her child.
Meri Ma..
Meri Ma..
Lastly, Mummy if you happen to read this post of mine by any chance. (I will call you and tell you about this post and then by evening will call you again to remind 🙂 )
I just want to say this to you –
I may not be living with you, I fight with you many times, we have difference of opinions, many days I  don’t talk to you over phone and also give you expert advice on many things but just want to let you know that I love you very much and you will exist in me until my last breath. XO XO
