The Walk movie 3D (2015) – a Viewer’s Review

Till date I have seen many biopic films but one made on a high wire artist is quite intriguing. I heard about this movie a couple of days back and being an adventure games lover myself since then had longed to watch it.

The story of the movie is based on the life of  a french high wire artist, Philippe Petit, who dreamt of walking on a high wire between the twin towers of World Trade Center and successfully accomplished it.
The film has been packaged to captivate the audience with its promotional trailer itself. The star cast consist of Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the role of Philippe Petit, Ben Kingsley, Charlotte Le Bon, James Badge Dale and is directed by Robert Zemeckis.
Robert Zemeckis needs no introduction, rather his past works like Romancing the Stone, Back to the future series, Castaway & Forest Gump instead speak a million about him.
Another person who needs no introduction and is a part of the film is veteran actor Ben Kingsley. Charlotte Le Bon, the female lead of the film looks beautiful and her french accent clearly works in favor of making her role more believable.

What Worked for Me:

  • The way narration and 3D effects have been used brilliantly to reinforce each other for scenes to leave a lasting effect on the viewer.
  • The lead actor, Joseph Gordon-Levitt has given one of his best performances in this movie. He has depicted the passion and in some scenes the finicky of Petit to realize the ‘great coup’ into reality with great astuteness.
  • The beauty of twin tower and sequence of Petit walking the high wire in 3D are the show stealer.

What Didn’t Work for Me:

  • The brief narration scenes done by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, I felt weren’t really needed in the movie.
  • Some scenes shot in black and white appeared too dark with the 3D effect (at least I felt so).
  • Last but not the least as a viewer, I felt a lack of a small summary about the life of Petit after this coup and other major characters of the film.

The Story:

The story is set in the year 1974 when Philippe Petit a high wire artist decided to do his high wire act between the then newly constructed twin towers of World Trade Center. This movie is all about his preparation, his passion, his accomplices and his victory in the coup.

My Verdict:

I would give this film a rating of 4/5 stars.
If you enjoy watching biopic movies or you are an adventure activity enthusiast then you shouldn’t miss this film. ‘The Walk’ inspires you to meet the dreams that you have seen for yourself with passion to make them a reality.
P.S.: A bit of suggestion in the last; if watching this film in the weekend is on your agenda then watch it only in 3D.
