An After Thought

Dabur Baby Massage Oil – Product Review

When a baby is born, it is a remarkable change for both parents as well as for the child. More so for the child because he or she had been living in a far more protected environment and in a dormant state for the past nine months. But after birth the baby needs to adapt the new environment, people around & has to become more active than previously; meanwhile coping with all this the child also needs to grow stronger and bigger.
So in the infancy age, apart from mother’s milk, ‘regular oil massage’ to the baby is very often advised not only by mothers and grandmothers but also by doctors.   Talking about myself, when my son, Riaan, being a first-time mother I was completely unaware of baby;s daily routine. Thankfully the two-day stay at the hospital after delivery turned out to be a crash course for me. As for my mom and my mother-in-law both the experienced ladies were far more petrified in handling their petit grandson. So I had to do the honours int the starting.
Apart from learning while in the hospital once back to home I had also referred to few videos on youtube. These all things helped me in understanding the importance of daily massaging the baby before bath and the apt dos’ and don’ts for the same.

Importance of Giving Massage to Infants:

An infant’s bones are quite delicate as compared to a grownup child so a regular Massage helps the bones to strengthen. Another advantage of this practice is to relax the muscles and bones of the baby firstly since the baby was fitted in a  very compact space within the mother’s womb until birth. Secondly the baby is developing at a very fast pace in the infancy stage and so the body needs to match the pace without getting fatigue and giving the baby a sound sleep. Apart from the physical benefits massage gives the mother and baby to bond more emotionally. I am no expert but a simple mom who is still learning. But from the experience I have gained up till now I am going to share few things that I personally do to give my son the strengthening yet relaxing massage.

Avoid Massage:

  • When the child is unwell or a day after vaccines especially pain or fever causing ones.
  • If the child is wailing or is irritable.

Preferred time for Massage:

  • Around noon.
  • Before child’s bedtime in the night.

  • My Take on the Product:

Before using this oil, I always used to massage my son with Figaro Olive Oil. I was so adamant to use the same product that I wasn’t even ready to change the brand of the oil I was using. I always feared the product non-suiting my little one’s skin. But when this product came my way trusting the brand name of Dabur I convinced myself to give it a try.
So as I started massaging my baby with this oil, the first thing that I noticed was that it has a mild fragrance. But then as I continued, I felt that the oil was actually suiting my baby’s skin and he too liked it.  (I assumed that he is happy with it since he didn’t cry at all. :p )

Pros of the Product:

  • The oil is more or less composed of natural ingredients and is free from paraffin and artificial colour.
  • Trusted brand name.
  • Price is in budget range.
  • Shelf life is good.
  • A combination of many natural oils for greater benefit to the child.

Cons of the Product:

  • The oil is little on the heavier side as compared to plain Olive Oil.
  • Fragrance can be a cause of irritation with some kids.
  • In case of accidental ingestion by child the oil can cause adverse effects.

My Verdict for this Product:

I rate it as 4/5 score.

As a mother, I can easily shift from my old plain jane Olive oil to this one in order to give my son its added benefits.

This was such a wonderful article dear but I want to share few things about the product I am using bath & body massage oil from long and its really effective. SheaMoisture’s Coconut & Hibiscus Bath, Body & Massage Oil works on dull, dry and sensitive skin by creating a moisture barrier and protecting your skin from further damage.
