‘Star Trek’ series is a legend when one talks about Hollywood’s hall of fame movies. In fact, this movie has actually seen the change in technology with the changing time like no other movie. Technologies like Bluetooth devices, mobile phones, video conferencing, computer tablets, universal translators and more which were once shown in the old Star Trek movies are now a reality. Change is also apparent in the form of main lead actors in old to new Star Trek movies.
So when a new sequel of such a legendary movie is released it becomes a must watch for a movie buff like me.
What Worked for Me:
-
Direction by Justin Lin: As most people would be knowing that Lin has directed most of the Fast & Furious films. The same energy he has tried to put in this film as well. So the action sequences are ones to watch out for.
-
The plot of the movie is not out & out action but there are other elements like humor & camaraderie between characters also explored. On one hand some instances will remind you of the original series while some others keep the movie fresh in experience.
-
The Star Cast: Quinto, Pine, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Idris Elba etc. all of them have by and large nailed their roles in the movie. Well on this note I would also like to remember Anton Yelchin who passed away in an accident. It is very saddening to see him in the movie portraying his role of Chekov so well.
-
Some of the space sequences are bound to leave you awestruck, especially if you are watching in 3D & 4D.
-
The Beastie Boys song ‘Sabotage’ goes really well with the movie theme.
What Didn’t Work for Me:
-
Story: This movie like most Sci-fi movies have the same basic plot and is little predictable.
-
The film feels a bit lengthy & noisy towards the climax.
Story:
The team is sent on a mission to a nearby nebula where they encounter an alien who wants to destroy federation. The team’s only resort is to defeat the alien in order to survive.
Verdict:
4 Stars out of 5
If you are a Star Trek fan and haven’t missed out any of the previous ones then I am sure you won’t miss this one either. Saying this I must add here that you will enjoy the film to the core as it has the right blend of action, adventure, & humor plus it retains the original feel. For the people who enjoy action & sci-fi movies but haven’t still seen any of the Star Trek movies, I would suggest it as a must watch!
Leaving you with the trailer of Star Trek Beyond.. Enjoy!!
