As we progress speedily towards the end of year 2017, the time has come for a roundup of how films released this year fared on box office. Well, Bollywood’s year 2017 was not particularly a good year, from Amitabh Bachchan to the Khans and not leaving behind the ‘Mr. Dependable of Bollywood’ – Akshay Kumar, all had to face varying levels of downfall. There were many films that the audience and cinema owners had high hopes but they proved to be a dud instead. Here are all such films that are guilty of spoiling your weekends.

    Ok Jaanu

Practically Bollywood’s year 2017 started off with the release of this much awaited remake of ‘Ok Kanamani’. The film was made by noted director Mani Ratnam and since the film was a super hit in its original version so there was a lot of buzz around it. Plus the music of A. R. Rahman and the presence of a remix version of already popular song Humma Humma further boosted its chance. Sigh the film couldn’t win hearts because of the poor performances of the lead pair and lack of depth in the story. IMDB Rating: 5.1

  • Kaabil

Raees v/s Kaabil - Bollywood's year 2017 - www.TheOtherBraininc.comAfter the fiasco of Mohenjadaro, Kaabil being the home production by the Roshan clan, this Hritik Roshan starer film was looked forward to. There was also a lot hue & cry made by Rakesh Roshan when the release dates of Kaabil & Raees clashed. However, the film failed to woo audiences not only in India but world wide. (Read the full review of Kaabil)  The attempt to make the film all the way a Hritik Roshan show emerged to be the biggest reason for failure.  IMDB Rating: 7.1

  • Raabta

Do you remember a film called Raabta which had the real life love birds Kriti Sanon and Sushant Singh Rajput? Oh! but some would say, wait didn’t it had Deepika Padukone in it! Well apart from the song Kuch toh hai raabta.. that had Deepika swaying in a mysteriously attractive style, everything else about Raabta was forgettable. IMDB Rating: 4

  • Begum Jaan

The film is a remake of Bengali film Rajkahini. Audience expectations soared high with the presence of Vidya Balan and an evident women-centric plot. But the fragile plot couldn’t impress the audiences despite having a strong casting. So Begum Jaan was yet another failed film that constituted Bollywood’s year 2017. IMDB Rating: 5.6

  • Rangoon

This film from the very beginning was seen as a gamble which could either hit the bull’s eye by winning both critical acclaim & be the viewer’s choice or prove to be a black Friday for theaters. Sadly even the presence of acclaimed actors like Shahid Kapoor, Kangana Ranut & Saif Ali Khan as the leading trio could not save the film from the disaster response. IMDB Rating: 5.8

  • Sarkar 3

Sarkar 3 – the third in this  movie series by Ram Gopal Verma went by largely unnoticed in Bollywood’s year 2017. The first movie in which Amitabh Bachchan & Abhishek Bachchan were there, was a great hit with powerful performances by leading actors. Sarkar Raj was powerful too. Plausibly, because of lack in good promotion  of Sarkar 3, the film left the theater halls empty.  IMDB Rating: 4.8

  • Jab Harry Met Sejal

This Imtiyaz Ali movie, unlike his other blockbuster and soul-touching movies came as a googly for the viewers. Audience had the hope that the pairing of Shahrukh Khan with Imtiyaz Ali would be a rescue attempt for the downhill going career of Bollywood’s Badshaah but alas the film turned out to be a bigger lesson for Imtiyaz instead. The stereotypical style that Anushka tried for bringing in the Gujarati flavor to her role also didn’t go down well with viewers. Whenever Anushka, you did that action of flowing water while explaining the meaning of name ‘Sejal’ we got equally irked like SRK in the film. IMDB Rating: 5.6

  • Noor

Bollywood’s year 2017 saw many experimental films made like Sonakshi Sinha in & as Noor. Well, a little pressure on your mind will certainly remind you about this film which God only knows why was it made. Was Sonakshi inspired to make a film like Queen? Whatever be the reasons but the film did not appeal the audience though it could have been made better. IMDB Rating: 3.9

  • Simran

Bollywood's year 2017 - Simran poster - www.TheOtherBraininc.comSimran a film where three time National Award winner Kangna Ranaut played the protagonist also bombed both at box office and in viewer’s opinions. Post Queen there were actually much higher expectations from the actress and film. We have nothing more to say just read the full review of Simran here.  IMDB Rating: 5.5

Not only the above films but some of the other movies that failed the expectations of viewers thereby making Bollywood’s year 2017 a not-so good year are Ajay Devgan starer Baadshaho, Farhan Akhtar’s Lucknow Central, Poster Boys, Phillauri, Firangi, Commando 2, Golmaal Again, Naam Shabana, Bhoomi, Chef, Tera Intezaar, Judwaa 2.

Though there were few films that received a mixed response like Jolly LLB 2, Toilet – ek prem katha, Jagga Jasoos, Shubh Managal Savdhan, Tubelight etc.

Mom film poster - Bollywood's year 2017 - www.TheOtherBraininc.comHowever, films like Sachin, Hindi Medium, Secret Super Star, Badrinath ki Dulhaniya, Poorna, Fukrey Returns, Mom & Raees were really liked by the Indian audiences and Bollywood lovers around the globe.
